Cierto día de 1996 el grupo finlandés Aknestik estaba tocando en una fiesta de cumpleaños en un local llamado Rauhala, en la pequeña Oulu, una ciudad de apenas 100.000 habitantes del norte de Finlandia. Para esa fiesta además de tocar, grabaron unos gags que se pasaban por el videoproyector del local entre vídeo y vídeo musical.
Uno de los gags era un informativo en el que se informaba a los asistentes de que Finlandia se había separado en dos, y que ahora Finlandia del Norte estaba gobernada por un gobierno de gente pop. Como consecuencia de esta separación, se amenazaba a Finlandia del Sur con las Air Guitar Forces (Fuerzas de las Guitarras de Aire) para que devolvieran al batería del grupo Aknestik, que según las informaciones estaba prisionero en Helsinki.
Estas Fuerzas de las Guitarras de Aire, tenían como principal arma el sonido de sus guitarras. Pero las guitarras eran invisibles, así que lo único que hacían era moverse como si tocaran una guitarra mientras sonaba la música.
Y con esa broma empezó todo. A partir de entonces y sin interrupción desde hace nueve años, se celebra lo que se conoce hoy en día como el Air Guitar World Championship. En este campeonato que se sigue celebrando en Oulu, gente venida de todas partes del globo, como Estados Unidos, Australia, Nueva Zelanda, Holanda, Alemania,… compite para ver quién «»toca»» mejor la guitarra. Durante el concurso realmente suena música, desde AC/DC a Nirvana, pero lo que se dice tocar, no hay nadie que toque una nota. Y no es nada fácil hacer ver que tocas, incluso hay normas y reglas que se deben seguir para conseguir tocar bien estas guitarras de aire o invisibles.
Este año el campeonato ha tenido lugar del 25 al 29 de Agosto, y ha habido 16 participantes. El premio, después de algo de confusión por el sistema utilizado por el jurado para sumar las puntuaciones, ha ido a parar ex aequo para el neozelandés Tarquin «The Tarkness» Keys y la estadounidense Miri «Sonyk-Rok» Park. Aquí puedes ver un vídeo de la final. También ha habido representación española en el concurso, ha sido Victor Miranda «Victower Málaga» Garcia, que en un dúo con el australiano Troy «Rock ‘n’ Roll Troy» Carter, ha situado a España en un nada desdeñable octavo lugar.
Esta modalidad de tocar la guitarra ha creado escuela, siendo ya muchos los campeonatos locales o nacionales que se celebran cada año en todo el mundo, y que son los que clasifican o no para llegar a la final mundial de Finlandia. Algunos de los más importantes y representativos son los celebrados en Holanda, Estados Unidos o Australia.
Así que ya sabes, si no tienes guitarra pero te has comprado algún fascículo del curso CEAC de guitarra, este es el momento de demostrar lo que vales y dejar al mundo parado con tus interpretaciones. Además, el premio del campeonato es una guitarra eléctrica, pero no una de aire, sino una real con un precio aproximado de 2500 euros.
Por cierto, sobre el grupo Aknestik no hay mucha información en la red, y la que hay está en finlandés, así que como si no estuviera. Si quieres saber cómo tocan puedes bajarte casi todas sus canciones en mp3 desde la sección äänet (que digo yo que será descargas en finlandés) de su web.

During the contest music really sounds, from AC / DC to Nirvana, but what is said to play, there is no one to play a note. And it is not easy to see that you play, there are even rules and rules that must be followed to play these air or invisible guitars well.
This year the championship has taken place from August 25 to 29, and there have been 16 participants.
